Why Gmail says "opens soon"

Google reviews every app that reads Gmail before it can connect more people. Until that review is finished, Google allows an app like Gloss to connect 100 students in total. That limit is Google's, and it never resets.

What this means for you

  • If you're one of the first 100 students to connect Gmail, it works now.
  • If you're student 101 or later, Gloss shows Gmail connection opens soon. Everything else works: your course site, schedule, syllabi, org events and reminders.
  • We ping you the day Gmail opens. You don't need to do anything.
  • Outlook schools aren't affected by this limit.

Why it counts everyone who ever connected

Google counts every person who has ever given an unreviewed app access, not just people connected right now. So disconnecting doesn't free a place, and Gloss counts the same way.

What Google is checking

Google checks that Gloss only asks for what it needs (read only access), uses Gmail data only to show you your deadlines, never for ads or AI training, and passes an independent security test called CASA. Gloss is going through that now.
